Our Sustainability Promise

The words sustainable, ethical and eco-friendly are phrases you have undoubtedly seen and heard from many brands. But what does this really mean and what are businesses actually doing to stay truthful to these words?

Our Commitment

When we started Deja Vu Apothecary, we had a vision of doing things differently.

As the aspiring leading brand of the 21st century, sustainability, climate impact and ethical and social responsibility have always been important in our decision-making and business strategies. With that said, we approach sustainability as an ongoing journey in which we are committed to improving every day.

Our Materials

As part of the jewellery industry, we are faced with many challenges. Starting with supply chain traceability, which is incredibly difficult since the raw materials we use (metals and gemstones) come from different parts of the world and pass through multiple hands before they make it to one of our pieces. Creating 100% responsible jewellery and building a more ethical brand isn’t easy. But we see it as a challenge to do better. That's why we cannot label ourselves a "Sustainable" brand, but we are eco-conscious in every way.

Our Packaging

While fancy branded packaging is nice, as a luxury brand, we've gone against the grain and made a tough decision for our ego, but an easy decision for our planet: to not produce more unnecessary extras that will ultimately end up in a landfill. Instead, we ship our products in the most minimal and simplistic way possible by reusing and up-cycling existing packaging from our factories as much as we can. As our business grows, we aim to have fully eco-friendly branded packaging by 2025. Until then, we will proudly reuse the packaging that already exist, to get the most use out of them as possible.

Carbon Neutrality

One of the reasons our brand is a Native Digital Brand is the lower impact on the environment. By not having a physical store, we reduce our impact in many ways, such as the travel time and shipping of our supplies, 

To keep our carbon footprint as small as possible, we cut down on how much, and how far, our products travel by shipping your items to you directly from the closest studio or warehouse whenever possible. When we can't, we bulk ship orders based on region so we keep CO2 emissions to a minimum.

Ethical Practices

With new brands popping up everyday online trying to make a quick dollar, it can be easy for them to find to large factories with low quality pieces made with cheap, sweat-shop labor. But when we began this journey at Deja Vu Apothecary, we knew that quality pieces and socially ethical practices were top priority. After much research, we have found amazing quality craftspeople and goldsmiths who are passionate about what they do, and warehouses who pay fair wages, with clean, stable and safe work environments. It matters to us because we strongly believe in Human Rights and now we have partners in Asia, North America, and Europe who share our values and are committed to ethical practices proudly making high-quality pieces for Deja Vu Apothecary customers.

Goals

We acknowledge that our goal of becoming a sustainable brand means continuously growing and learning more about how we can better our processes for the future. We aim to always educate ourselves and our team on how best to optimise our sustainability efforts and policies. We hope to positively contribute to the movement towards more sustainable and considered living by investing in our environment and ultimately our earth's future.

Our goals include: 

 - Becoming 100% carbon neutral across our entire supply chain and distribution 
 - Generate zero waste
 - Vertical integration of our business model to minimise waste and streamline sustainability initiatives 
 - Using 100% ethical and recycled materials   
 - Create designs that reduce material use and use more recycled materials 
 - Sourcing and using only 100% ethical and sustainably made gemstones 

 

The future of fashion is in our hands. We all have a long way to go to become 100% sustainable for our planet, but the actions we take today impact tomorrow.

At Deja Vu Apothecary, we're disrupting our industry by leading by example. We want to show the rest of the luxury industry that we are a new generation of conscious consumers who desire accountability.

Where it was once all about status, logos and exclusivity, we believe luxury brands should be actors in social conversations, driven by a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility...and that is what makes Deja Vu Apothecary the leading brand of the 21st century.
